Praised for her "stunning vocalism" and "fearless acting" by Voce de Meche, and for her "fascinating dark color" by Parterre Box, Monique Galvão is establishing herself as a promising and important mezzo-soprano.
Recent highlights included her debut as ELVIRA in D. Giovanni at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, GIOVANNA SEYMOUR in Donizetti's Anna Bolena, BIANCA in Britten's The Rape of Lucretia with the Academy of Vocal Arts, a concert with Nadine Sierra and SeokJong Baek with Classic Lyric Arts in New York City, her debut as CARMEN in Peter Brook's La Tragédie de Carmen with the Chautauqua Opera, and her debut in Bizet's CARMEN production at the Miami Music Festival.
She also performed as the THIRD LADY in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, in addition to being a cover for CARMEN with the Florida Grand Opera.
Past performances at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts include DONNA ELVIRA in Mozart's Don Giovanni, FLORA in Verdi's La Traviata, and the title role of MIGNON by A. Thomas.
Monique graduated from Florida International University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in Vocal Performance, and performed in operas by Menotti, Chabrier, and John Blow. As a scholar at Miami Dade College, she obtained her A.A in Fine Arts and Education in Fine Arts. Her work there included roles in musical theater and operetta, such as Katisha in The Mikado, Aunt March and Mrs. Kirk in Little Women, Queen Aggravain in Once Upon a Mattress, and Adalgisa, Orfeo, Cherubino, and 2nd Lady in various performances.
Monique was awarded a scholarship from the Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition of 2024, was a finalist in the James Toland Vocal Arts Elizabeth Greenfield Competition, and won the second prize in the Linus Lerner International Singing Competition.
Monique Galvão was born and raised in Brazil. She embraced her passion for the arts as a trained classical dancer with the principal dancers and soloists of the Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro. She lived in France, where she continued dancing and was first introduced to classical music. Later, in Miami, she continued with classical singing, earning awards from the Florida Federation of Music Clubs and the National Association of Teachers in Singing (NATS). Monique also holds a French Bachelor's degree in Literature with Honors and worked at the Alliance Française as a French instructor.
