Praised for her "stunning vocalism” and "fearless acting" by Voce de Meche, "fascinating dark color" by Parterre Box, Monique Galvão is establishing herself as an up and coming leading mezzo-soprano.
Highlights of the 2023-2024 season included her debut as Giovanna Seymour in Donizetti's Anna Bolena and Bianca in Britten’s The Rape of Lucretia with the Academy of Vocal Arts. Additionally Ms. Galvão performed in concert with guest artists Nadine Sierra and SeokJong Baek with Classic Lyric Arts in New York City.
Last season, Monique debuted as Carmen in Peter Brook's La Tragédie de Carmen with Chautauqua Opera as well as in concert with the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra performing the repertoire of Verdi, Mozart and Strauss. Additional highlights of the 2022-2023 season include her debut of the traditional staging of Bizet’s Carmen at the Miami Music Festival.
Monique was a Career Grant recipient of the 2024 Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition, a finalist in the James Toland Vocal Arts Elizabeth Greenfield Competition and the second prize winner of the Linus Lerner International Singing Competition.
Her upcoming performances this 2024-2025 season include performances as Third Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte as well as cover of Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen also with Florida Grand Opera.
Past performances at the prestigious Academy of Vocal Arts, include Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Flora in Verdi’s La Traviata and the title role of Thomas’Mignon. Concert performances include the second soprano solo in Mozart’s Mass in C minor.
Monique is a graduate from the Florida International University where she received her bachelors in Vocal Performance, while there she performed in operas of Menotti, Chabrier and John Blow. As a scholarship recipient at Miami Dade College, she earned her A.A in Fine Arts and Fine Arts Education. Her work there included musical theater and operetta roles such as Katisha in the Mikado, Aunt March and Mrs Kirk in Little Women, Queen Aggravain in Once Upon a Mattress and Adalgisa, Orfeo, Cherubino and 2nd Lady in various performances.
Monique Galvão was born and raised in Brazil. She embraced her passion for the arts as a classically trained dancer with Brazil’s Teatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro principal and soloist dancers. She lived in France where she continued dancing and was first introduced to classical music. Later in Miami, she continued with classical singing, earning awards from the Florida Federation of Music Clubs and the National Association of Teachers in Singing (NATS). Monique also holds a French Baccalaureate in Literature with Honors and has worked at the Alliance Française as a French instructor.
