Marcelo de Jesus is the principal conductor of the Amazonas Chamber Orchestra and Artistic Consultant for the Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of Amazonas. He served as assistant conductor of the Amazonas Philharmonic at the invitation of Luiz Fernando Malheiro and was the Director of the Artistic Ensembles at the Teatro Amazonas from 2011 to 2020.
Before assuming his role as a conductor in Manaus, Marcelo worked as a pianist and assistant conductor at the Municipal Theater of São Paulo and the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro.
Some highlights of his career include a concert at Rock in Rio with Placido Domingo and Ivete Sangalo, his roles as a conductor at the Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro in directing Janacek's opera "Jenufa," Puccini's "Tosca," Alberto Nepomuceno's “Artemis,” Francisco Braga's “Jupyra,” a concert dedicated to composer Claudio Santoro, and his performances at the Amazonas Opera Festival in the Brazilian premieres of Donizetti's "Maria Stuarda" and "Anna Bolena," Claudio Santoro's "Alma" (voted as the best opera of 2019 by Revista Concerto), "Poranduba" (E. Villani-Côrtes), “Kawah Ijen” (João Guilherme Ripper), "Yerma" (H. Villa-Lobos), Eduardo Frigatti's “O Corvo,” Fernando Riederer's “Duas Flores,” Tatiana Catanzaro's “L'attente,” and Paulina Łuciuk's “Ária dos Olhos.” He also achieved great success conducting G. Puccini's "Il Tabarro" at the Amazonas Opera Festival.
As a guest conductor, he has performed with the Colombian Opera, Amazonas Philharmonic, Brazilian Symphony Orchestra, Milano Classica Orchestra (Italy), Rosario Symphony Orchestra (Argentina), Theatro da Paz Symphony Orchestra, Campinas Municipal Symphony Orchestra, Porto Alegre Symphony Orchestra, Goiás Philharmonic Orchestra, São Paulo Repertoire Experimental Orchestra, Sergipe Symphony Orchestra, Espírito Santo Symphony Orchestra, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Marcelo de Jesus holds a degree in composition and conducting from UNESP and has been awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Amazonas by the State Legislative Assembly of Amazonas.
