During this last decade of extraordinary achievements and performances, Marcelo Bratke has graced the world's most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall, the Salzburg Festival, the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Wigmore Hall, and the Konzerthaus in Berlin.
Increasingly engaged in exploring how art can contribute to social development, Bratke founded Camerata Brasil in 2007, an orchestra that combines young classical and popular musicians from underprivileged areas of Brazilian society. Together, they have embarked on major national and international tours, visiting Brazil, Argentina, England, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Ireland, Serbia, Bosnia, South Korea, Japan, and the United States, where they delivered a memorable performance at Carnegie Hall in New York, acclaimed by The New York Times, New York Post, and Concert Net USA. Marcelo Bratke was the invited artist to inaugurate the Ibirapuera Auditorium and performed on special occasions for President Fernando Henrique Cardoso and Queen Silvia of Sweden.
Despite being firmly rooted in the tradition of classical music, Marcelo Bratke is an artist whose imagination knows no bounds within the classical music universe. He has performed duets with prominent figures from the popular music realm, such as British jazz pianist Julian Joseph, percussionist Naná Vasconcelos, singers and songwriters Milton Nascimento and Dori Caymmi, and pop singers Sandy and Fernanda Takai. He has also engaged in classical duets with pianist Marcela Roggeri and sopranos Rosana Lamosa, Camila Titinger, and Patricia Hammond.
Marcelo Bratke leads the Villa-Lobos Worldwide project, a national and international campaign to promote the music of Villa-Lobos. This initiative includes the complete recording of Villa-Lobos's works for solo piano on 8 CDs with the British label Quartz, as well as concerts in Brazil, Europe, the United States, and Asia, conferences, special concerts for children, and performances in Brazilian prisons. Bratke hosts the weekly radio program "Alma Brasileira," dedicated to Villa-Lobos, on Rádio Cultura FM in São Paulo. He also produced a series of eight documentaries about the composer for Arte 1 TV.
Marcelo Bratke studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York and has received numerous awards, including the first prize at the Concorso Internazionale di Musica Tradate in Italy, the Revelação Prize from the São Paulo Association of Art Critics, the Carlos Gomes Prize, the Classic Discoveries Award in England, the Brazil Prize in Germany 2006, the 14th Brazilian International Press Award, the Sarajevo Winter Festival Art of Touch Award 2013, and in 2017, he was honored with the Order of Cultural Merit from the Ministry of Culture and the Federal Government. His CD dedicated to Le Groupe des Six was considered by the British magazine Gramophone as one of the best classical recordings of all time.
