Juliana Steinbach was born in João Pessoa, Brazil, and began her musical studies in France at the age of five. She graduated from the Music Conservatories of Lyon and Paris, the Pianistic Academy of Ímola in Italy, and the Juilliard School in New York. Juliana studied under distinguished international piano pedagogues, including Christine Paraschos, Bruno Rigutto, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Jacques Rouvier, Franco Scala, and Joseph Kalichstein.
She was a student of Maria João Pires in Belgais, Portugal, and Pnina Salzman in Tel-Aviv, Israel. She received regular guidance from masters such as Dmitri Bashkirov, Alicia De Larrocha, Christoph Eschenbach, Péter Frankl, Emanuel Krasovsky, and Ferenc Rados. Juliana Steinbach has been awarded in various international competitions, notably the First Prize in the Vittorio Gui Competition in Florence, Italy, and the Beethoven Prize in the Trieste Competition in Italy. Passionate about chamber music, she has developed an extensive repertoire in various ensembles and has performed alongside partners such as Martha Argerich, Nelson Freire, and Ivry Gitlis. Engaged in exploring new paths in contemporary music, she has collaborated with composers like Connesson, Escaich, Horváth, Porat, and Saunders.
Juliana Steinbach is a guest soloist with numerous orchestras in France and Europe. In Brazil, she has collaborated with the Minas Gerais Philharmonic (Fabio Mechetti), the Petrobrás Symphony Orchestra of Rio de Janeiro (Fabio Mechetti), the Goiás Symphony (Neil Thomson), the Jazz Symphony Orchestra (João Maurício Galindo), the Orchestra of TV Cultura (Júlio Medaglia), the Municipal Symphony Orchestra of Campinas (Linus Lerner), and the Paraíba Symphony (João Linhares).
She regularly performs in the leading concert halls in Paris (Cité de la Musique, Salle Pleyel, Châtelet, Radio France, Auditorium du Louvre, Opéra Bastille, Opéra Garnier, Salle Cortot) and at major French concert series (International Festival of La Roque d'Anthéron, Piano aux Jacobins, Lille Piano Festival, La Folle Journée), as well as on prominent European stages: Bozar and Flagey in Brussels, Oxford Chamber Music Festival, Salzburg Festspiel, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Hamburg Laeiszhalle, München Gasteig, Budapest Liszt Academy, Prague Rudolfinum, Teatro della Pergola and Teatro Comunale in Florence, Bologna Festival, MITO in Milan and Turin, Amici della Musica in Perugia, Teatro São Luis in Lisbon, festivals in Santander and San Sebastian in Spain, Farsund in Norway, Stockholm's Belas Artes, Ekaterinburg Philharmonic in Russia... Outside of Europe, she has performed in venues such as the Lincoln Center in New York, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Tel Aviv Museum, and the main halls in Seoul, Manila, Bangkok, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.
In Brazil, she has been featured in recent years at the Sala São Paulo (invited by the OSESP Quartet), Sala Cecília Meireles (Rio de Janeiro), Teatro Santa Isabel (Recife), Instituto Baía dos Vermelhos (Ilhabela), at the Artes Vertentes Festival (Tiradentes), Rio Chamber Music Week, and João Pessoa.
Juliana Steinbach is the founder and artistic director of two festivals in Burgundy and Transylvania. In 2021, she created Le Concert de Bourgogne, an orchestral ensemble dedicated to exploring and creating concertante piano repertoire. Her discography includes three solo albums featuring works by Liszt, Mussorgsky, and Debussy, as well as several chamber music recordings.
