Winner of the VII Maria Callas Brazilian Competition, Eric Herrero is a Brazilian tenor who is very active both in Brazil and Europe. He participated in the European premiere of "Pedro Malazarte" (Camargo Guarnieri) at the Feldkirch Music Festival in Austria and has been performing frequently with the Luxembourg Philharmonia since 2013. At the Festival Pézenas Enchantée in France, he performed the title role in "Les Contes d’Hoffmann" (J. Offenbach) and Alfredo in "La Traviata" (G. Verdi), alongside opera icons such as Sylvia Sass, Aprile Millo, Alexander Anisimov, and Eliane Coelho.
Among the more than forty characters in his career, notable roles include Roberto in "Le Villi" (G. Puccini) at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, Cavaradossi in "Tosca" (G. Puccini) and Don José in "Carmen" (G. Bizet) at the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, Andrea Chénier at the Palácio das Artes in Belo Horizonte, Boris in "Katya Kabanová" (L. Janáček) and Maurizio di Sassonia in "Adriana Lecouvreur" (F. Cilea) at the Theatro São Pedro in São Paulo, and Lysander in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (B. Britten) with OSB Ópera & Repertório. In South America, he performed Laca in "Jenufa" (L. Janáček), Maurizio di Sassonia in "Adriana Lecouvreur"(F. Cilea), Des Grieux in "Manon Lescaut" (G. Puccini), and Princ in the Argentine premiere of "Rusalka" (A. Dvořák) with Buenos Aires Lírica. His debut at the Teatro Solís in Montevideo was as Bacchus in "Ariadne auf Naxos" (R. Strauss) and in Chile at the Lyrical Gala of the International Opera Festival Laguna Mágica.
In his symphonic repertoire, highlights include "Die erste Walpurgisnacht," "Elias," and "Lobgesang" by F. Mendelssohn, the Ninth Symphony and "Missa Solemnis" by Beethoven, "Messa da Requiem" by Verdi, "Te Deum" by Bruckner, "Maria Zeller Mass" by Joseph Haydn, "Theresienmesse" by Michael Haydn, and "El Pesebre" by Pablo Casals.
Eric also participated in important national premieres, including "Florencia en el Amazonas" by Daniel Catán, "Ça Ira" by Roger Waters, and "Poranduba" by Villani-Côrtes at the Amazonas Opera Festival, "Le Rosignol" by I. Stravinsky at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, "Jenufa" (Brno version) at the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, and "Katia Kabanová" at the Theatro São Pedro - SP.
He was one of the guest singers invited by the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo for the celebration of the 90th anniversary of the 1922 Modern Art Week.
Herrero is also a significant voice for national culture – holder of a degree in Cultural Production Technology and an MBA in Public Administrationhe is the current President of the State Council of Cultural Policy of Rio de Janeiro and has received the titles of Honorary Citizen of Rio de Janeiro from the City Council and Ambassador of Tourism.
Currently, in addition to his career as a lyrical singer, Eric Herrero is the Artistic Director of the Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro.
