Daniel Umbelino, considered one of the great young lyrical artsits of Brazil in recent years, was a student at the Accademia Rossiniana in Pesaro, studying with Ernesto Palacio and Juan Diego Florez, and critically acclaimed for his Belfiore in "Il Viaggio a Reims" at the 2019 Rossini Opera Festival. He is the winner of the First Prize for Male Voice and the Alfredo Germont Character Prize at the 15th Maria Callas Competition in 2016.
His repertoire includes roles such as Rinuccio in "Gianni Schicchi," Tamino in "Die Zauberflöte," Alfredo in "La Traviata," Romeo in "Romeo et Juliette," and Lysander in Britten's "A Midsummer Night's Dream."
He was the protagonist in the world premiere of Jorge Antunes's "O Espelho" and Ricardo Llorca's "Tres Sombreros de Copa." He participated in the Brazilian premieres of Dean Burry's "The Brothers Grimm" and Oliver Knussen's "Where the Wild Things Are."
Daniel sang L'Abate in Cilea's "Adriana Lecouvreur" and Gandung in the premiere of João Guilherme Ripper's "Kawah Ijen in Manaus, and also made the Brazilian debut of Britten's orchestral cycle "Our Hunting Fathers," conducted by Luiz Fernando Malheiro, with the orchestra of Theatro São Pedro.
Daniel has sung under the baton of Luiz Fernando Malheiro, Nikolas Nägele, Silvio Viegas, Peter Van Heyghen, Alexis Soriano, and others, and has been directed by Gustavo Tambascio, Davide Garattini, Bruno Berger-Gorski, Jorge Takla, and André Heller-Lopes.
He has a notable presence in chamber music repertoire with the cycles of Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms, particularly excelling in "Die Schöne Müllerin" and "Dichterliebe."
Daniel graduated from the São Paulo School of Music under the guidance of soprano Laura de Souza. At the São Paulo State School of Music (EMESP), he attended the Opera Studio under the guidance of Mauro Wrona and Baroque Singing under the guidance of Luís Otavio Santos. He also studied Baroque interpretation with Nicolau de Figueiredo. He was a student at the opera academy of Theatro São Pedro under the guidance of André dos Santos and participated in masterclasses with Mariela Devia, Giuseppe Sabatini, Fernando Portari, Eliane Coelho, and Ricardo Tamura.
